Windmill Harbour is the epitome of seaside living at its best. This private, residential community is located at the entrance to Hilton Head Island on Jenkins Island. Its ideal location – bordering the Intracoastal Waterway – gives way to serene breezes and panoramic views of the Lowcountry’s majestic natural beauty, including gorgeous waterways. This 172-acre community is reserved for only 500 residents so when you buy a home in Windmill Harbour you are getting a private and exclusive piece of paradise. You have your choice of estate and patio lots, villas and townhomes overlooking a variety of picturesque Lowcountry views including lagoons, marshes or the harbor basin. All the homes pay homage to historic Charlestonian architecture featuring many traditional “single houses,” which are long and tall homes with large porches, called piazzas. The focal point and most important asset of this private community is the marina and its 15-acre inland harbor, which offers property owners convenience and security. The marina includes close to 260 boat slips. One of the most impressive features of the harbor is the safe, tide-free, lock-control system, which is only one of three private, lock-controlled harbors on the East Coast. The lock system protects the harbor, as well as your boat, from changing tides, weather, marine life and strong currents. You can rest easy knowing your boat is safe and secure because of the lock system and 24-hour-a-day security. When you purchase one of the fixed, concrete boat slips, you have your choice from 30-feet to 70-feet slips. No matter the size, each are equipped with water and power connections. The marina also features a ramp for smaller boats, fuel dock, shower facilities and a marina store.
Residents can take advantage of the other amenities Windmill Harbour has to offer including the community pool located in the Indian Hill neighborhood, the two extended, ocean piers, which are perfect for casting a fishing line, setting a crab trap or simply enjoying the sunset as you do a little dolphin watching.
Take a brisk or relaxing walk along one of the oak-shaded brick paths or just sit and read in one of the community’s “pocket-parks,” which are similar to the popular squares in nearby Savannah, GA.
Windmill Harbour is also home to the South Carolina Yacht Club. The South Carolina Yacht Club was created to become the preferred hot spot for “the most interesting residents and travelers to Hilton Head Island.” This vision was reminiscent of the early social gatherings held on Hilton Head Island with legendary real estate developer Charles Fraser, in where he invited dignitaries from the around the world.
The South Carolina Yacht Club is open to residents and non-residents alike. This private yachting, social and tennis club offers the finest amenities, dining and services. The SCYC impressive Sports Center includes seven Har-Tru courts, lap pool, children’s pool and fitness center so the members can focus on staying active and healthy.
The SCYC also features a 13,000-square-foot Clubhouse, which reflects the community’s tradition of Charleston, S.C.’s historical architectural. And no matter where your interests lie, the SCYC’s varied calendar of social events offers something right up your alley.
Although the South Carolina Yacht Club offers something interesting for everyone, membership to the South Carolina Yacht Club is not a requirement for residents.
Windmill Harbour is not governed by the Town of Hilton Head Island, but is part of Beaufort County. However, residents still have a Hilton Head Island zip code and children attend Hilton Head Island schools.
