Folly Field is one of the oldest and most unique neighborhoods on Hilton Head Island. This community possesses the genuine, laid-back beach vibe that comes to mind when you think flip flops and suntans. Generations of families have vacationed on Folly Field or called it their primary home for more than 50 years. Folly Field Road is located off William Hilton Parkway, nestled between two large Hilton Head plantations, Palmetto Dunes and Port Royal. Folly Field real estate is a mix of single-family homes and villas, some serving as primary residences while others as vacation rentals. You will find a blend of “old” and “new” as you drive down Folly Field Road with small and quaint beach cottages sitting next to expansive and luxurious mansions. The villas range from one-bedroom condos to private, larger villas. Folly Field also offers gated villa complexes. Homes in the Folly Field area range in price, but the best selling point is that they’re all steps away from Hilton Head Island’s cool ocean breezes and white, sandy beaches. This community is a favorite of longtime Hilton Head Island visitors, but it’s also becoming a popular destination for residents seeking the ultimate beach living destination. Folly Field, as one of Hilton Head Island’s oldest communities, is partially responsible for the island’s popularity. A developer with the Hilton Head Company built the island’s first beach cottages at Folly Field in 1953 with the goal of attracting more ferry traffic from the mainland and encouraging the state of South Carolina to build a bridge to Hilton Head Island. Ultimately the Town had to build a toll bridge in 1956 so the masses could discover the unique beauty and charm of Hilton Head Island.
