Referred to as “downtown Hilton Head” by locals and tourists alike, the area surrounding Coligny and Forest Beach is the place to be. Coligny Plaza has everything you need for an eventful day on the town. Around every corner of the gift shop inlet are boutiques and restaurants with live music. As one of the featured spokes of the traffic circle, Coligny Plaza is a collection of old fashioned fudge shops, candle makers, and homemade Italian ices. Among the very active circle of activities, are three miles of Forest Beach area. This equally energetic area is comprised of the North and South residential areas that meet in the middle of Coligny Circle. It’s surprising that one of the oldest neighborhoods on the island has continued to grow over the years. Perhaps its secret is that each lot is no more than 600 yards from the beautiful Atlantic coastline. While most of the Island’s plantation communities are gated, Coligny and Forest Beach area have remained free and accessible to the public for over fifty years. Living on Hilton Head Island certainly has its perks, but North Forest Beach has definitely found its niche within the island communities. The residential section has been nicknamed ‘the bird streets’ by he island locals, and for a good reason. The streets of North Forest Beach have each been named after a specific avian species. The sandy lanes of Dove Street are known for their Christmas spirit, as they are decorated to the nines when the holidays roll around every year. Jacana Street is a gathering place for the island’s dedicated surfers because the waves at high tide are the best the island has to offer. Though the putting greens of Hilton Head Island are highly sought after, you’ll find that while Forest Beach has no range to offer, they are merely a few minutes away.
